Hello Cambridgeport Families,

Happy first full week of school! This is my first school year in Cambridge Public Schools and my 16th year as a Principal. The welcome that I have received has been amazing! I LOVE IT HERE! I have held several Grade Level Meet and Greets this Summer and a few Zoom Meetings regarding the Opening of School Updates. Our teachers held Listening Family Conferences in early September and continue to meet with families as needed and requested. Kristen Emack, our Family Liaison, has connect with families to ensure that they have the technology required and continue to send resources your way via email. I have had the pleasure to meet most of your children this week via Google Meet as I have been sharing my student-friendly Identity Tree and coming into the Google Meet classes to participate in some learning. It’s been a busy few weeks, and we are continuing to be optimistic about what this school year will bring us even though there have been some challenges.

  • We are starting our school year remotely.
  • We are waiting for our school delivery of student materials to get additional items into our student’s hands.
  • We are amid a pandemic.
  • There continues to be upheaval in our society about race & equity.
  • There is some uncertainty, or should I say anxiety, regarding our Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of government and how our elected officials will support the people.

Though these challenges exist, and many of us are struggling in our way, I continue to feel like we will be okay and will have a successful school year. I have learned so much in the past few months about our school community. I still have more to learn and much more to share. Our community is strong and it is clear that we take care of one another. Parents support each other, and teachers continue to work hard to ensure the learning experiences your children are receiving are top-notch, even though we would love to teach them all in person without these restrictions. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work through all that we need to do.

Your Principal,

Genteen Jean-Michel
