Third Grade

THIRD GRADE OVERVIEW

Third graders are excited about learning, willing to take risks, and curious about everything. As teachers, our job is to channel our students’ enthusiasm and guide them in seeking information and gaining the skills that will help them in their academic work. These skills include conceptual knowledge and competence in problem solving, research, writing, mathematics, science, reading and the arts. We provide a wide range of activities with our units of study that appeal to a broad range of interests and learning styles. We also help kids develop a strong sense of community and ownership in their classroom learning. Using the Responsive Classroom curriculum, students become active members in making the classroom rules and classroom consequences, as well as mediating any issue that may arise. The following are habits of mind that we expect from Cambridgeport scholars:

1. Persevere to Understanding
2. Seek out Challenge
3. Analyze and Interpret
4. Think Flexibly
5. Construct Logical Arguments and Critique Others’ Arguments
