Introducing Cambridgeport's Incoming Assistant Principal Beginning School Year 2024/2025

I am pleased to introduce our incoming assistant principal for the school year 2024-2025! After a long and thorough search with a team of ten Cambridgeport School Community Members, we have chosen our new permanent assistant principal.

Hello Cambridgeport School Community! My name is
Michael Macchi, and I am thrilled to be your assistant principal beginning in the Fall of the 24-25 school year.
Over the past 11 years, I have held a number of different roles within Boston Public Schools. I began my career as a 3rd Grade Inclusion Teacher at the Phineas Bates Elementary School. During this time, the Bates team worked collaboratively to design a vision and model for inclusive education that is currently being used throughout the district today.
After spending five years as a teacher, I enrolled in a program for Aspiring Principals at Boston College’s Lynch Leadership Academy, which included a yearlong internship at The Perry School. After finishing the program, I continued my career at The Perry as the school’s assistant principal during the 2019-2020 school year before transitioning into the principal role from 2020 - 2022. During my time at The Perry, we were able to successfully transition from a K-8 to a K-6 school community, provide students with access to inclusive academic and social-emotional learning clubs, including enhanced music and student-leadership partner programs, and create a positive academic and social-emotional learning environment during the pandemic that led to statewide recognition in growth and achievement.
Most recently, I have had the privilege of working as an Instructional Coach at The Guild School, where I’ve collaborated closely with school leadership to equip our staff with: proven and effective curricula, student-focused and standards-aligned teaching practices, and necessary resources to ensure students get to experience the daily joys of learning in the best possible academic environment.
I am a Boston University Terrier (‘12, Bachelor of Arts, Psychology), a Umass-Boston Beacon (‘13, Masters of Education, Elementary Education), and a Boston College Eagle (‘19, Lynch Leadership Academy).
When I am not at work, you can find me either reading, golfing, or hanging out with my wife Devika and our cat Chester!
