Toy Drive

Toy Drive
Posted on 11/20/2014
3rd and 4th gradersSome of our Cambridgeport School 3rd and 4th Graders are working on a Community Service Project and are sponsoring a toy drive that will benefit children with Sickle Cell Anemia.

Sickle Cell Anemia is a disease where the red blood cells are shaped like a crescent moon instead of like a circle. Sickle red blood cell live only 10-20 days instead of the normal 120 days. The damaged Sickle red blood cells also clump together and stick to the walls of blood vessels, blocking blood flow. This can cause severe pain and permanent damage to the brain, heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, bones and spleen. Severe pain is an emergency called acute sickle cell crisis.

Students from this project will be in the hallway outside the main office ready to accept your donations or you may leave them in the office with Maria. We will be accepting donations of new toys in their original packaging for ages 5 to 15 from November 21 through December 12, 2014.
