Fourth
graders are excited about learning, willing to take risks, and curious
about everything. As teachers, our job is to channel our students'
enthusiasm and guide them in seeking information and gaining skills that
will help them in their own academic work. These skills include
conceptual knowledge and competence in problem solving, research,
writing, mathematics, science, reading, and the arts. We provide a wide
range of activities within our units of study that appeal to a variety
of interests and learning styles. We also help kids develop a strong
sense of community and ownership in their classroom learning. Using the
Responsive Classroom curriculum, students become active members in
making the classroom rules and classroom consequences, as well as
mediating any issues that may arise.
