Students in the 5th grade at the Cambridgeport School have been
hopping, stomping and kicking up their heels 18th century style with
Jacob Bloom from the Dance in the Schools program. They’ve learned about
the role of dance in the American Colonies, specifically between social
classes. The students practiced English Country dances and
African-inspired circle dances, noting the fundamental, meaningful
differences between the styles.
Our collaboration with Dance in the Schools helps students learn long
after the lively, fun sessions end. Dancing and discussing 18th century
movement helps fifth graders think more deeply about their American
colonial research, bringing the 1700’s to life through this amazing
experience.
