The 5th has been studying soil. Here is an excerpt from Isabel Eccles’
(5th grade teacher) classroom newsletter: “On Friday, Phoebe’s father,
Spence, came in to lead a great soil workshop. We learned how geologists
study soils then everyone got a chance to analyze four mystery soil
samples. They were able to identify what was in the soil, and then
figure out where the soil came from based on their findings. It was fun
and exciting and everyone learned a great deal. This would be a great
thing to ask your child about.
A nice follow up to the soil
investigation was our latest trip to the garden. Our class worked on
“putting the garden to bed” for the winter. They worked hard and got
dirty pulling up plants, weeding, composting, and preparing the soil for
the winter grains we will plant in two weeks.”
