Cambridgeport
was excited to welcome David Haines back as he helped students mix
music and science together. In just one hour, each class that David
worked with wrote a song about a science topic, put it to music, and
recorded it!
The third and fourth graders in Mrs. Lev's class co-wrote the song
titled "Spins and Turns." Students were asked questions about their last
science unit - the solar system. After writing this song, students will
never mix up the concept of rotation and revolution in space ever
again!
Second graders in Diane's room worked with David to compose a song about
robins. Students have conducted fieldwork and internet research to
learn about robins. The students applied what they have learned to write
the clever and informative, "Hip Hop Robin".
Throughout
the year Lindsay's first graders have been thinking about the life
cycle of plants through their visits to the garden. They observed a
pumpkin rotting and sprouting so the students decided to write about the
sprouting of the pumpkin seeds. Working with David Haines, the class
wrote "Pretty Blooming Pumpkin". They loved using their knowledge of
interesting, sparkly words and the opportunity to invent the tune
themselves!
Marty's first graders had done an expedition on living things, part of
which featured the class gerbils. The students chose to write a song
that imagined the classroom from a gerbil's perspective and came up with
"The Giants are Approaching".
