Claes OldenburgThe sun is starting to shine a little warmer, and it’s time to switch out our snow boots and parkas for raincoats and galoshes! The art room is a-buzz with a plethora of exciting projects. We are drawing, painting, collaging, and sculpting this month and we could use your help gathering some recyclables for our projects.

The 5th graders are creating large-scale sculptures, inspired by Claes Oldenburg, who was a famous mid-century American pop-artist. He is best known for his larger than life site-specific installation sculptures of ordinary objects (see example on right). What is even more amazing is that as a founding father of the Pop-Art movement that began in the 1950s, he is still making artworks today!

If you have any of the following items kicking around at home, please consider donating them to the art room: Newspaper, small cardboard boxes (shoe boxes, cereal boxes, toothpaste boxes, etc.), wooden chopsticks, paper towel/toilet paper rolls, wire hangers, clean plastic bottle tops, cleaned out deli containers & sour cream containers, new aluminum foil, new cling wrap, new or gently used plastic Tupperware or small organizer bins. If you have items to donate, please bring them to room 201. Thank you!
