Recently, some of the fourth graders took on the task of investigating how the Earth moves in space. The students entered the process with many misconceptions, and what was planned as a one-day inquiry became a week long investigation. In order to come to common understandings, we realized that we needed to utilize many of the habits of mind that we have been building at Cambridgeport. We worked on constructing and critiquing logical arguments in particular, they worked on recognizing when they needed to seek out new information in order to create a clear argument.
