On November 7th, the Cambridgeport community gathered to share a
meal and participate in engaging literacy activities. Parents and
children alike relished listening to Justin read Strega Nona
while donning a chef’s hat. Sarah Baszto pitched a tent right in her
classroom to set the stage for scary stories being read in the dark.
Marty, who spends his days with first graders, let all ages of kids
write their own wacky endings to stories, and was amazed at how much fun
this was for even our older students. The whole purpose of the event is
to enjoy some time together and share with families many ways in which
literacy can be fun. We hope that when families have fun reading and
writing together, they will choose these kinds of activities more often.
