Over
250 Cambridgeport students, parents, grandparents, mentors, friends,
and teachers crowded the gym to play games together. Tables were set up
throughout the gym, and teachers taught students engaging math games.
Some games were directed towards younger students, and others provided a
challenge even for the adults in the crowd. Math coach, Glen Sherman,
ran the event, and presented an enthusiastic audience with door prizes
such as Tangram puzzles and gift certificates for ice cream.
Our
goal with Math Game Night is for families to come together and have fun
while doing math. All too often, we hear adults telling children that
math was hard for them, or that they don’t really like math. When
families can come together and play games, they see that math is not
only useful and necessary, but also a great way to have fun together.
